Gearbox Software opens new studio in the Great White North

Gearbox Software has opened a new studio in Quebec, Canada, and it's looking to expand its team at the new location.

Gearbox Studio Quebec is working on its first title, which will grow into "full triple-A production capability through 2016."

"We have already successfully built an expanded all-new headquarters in Frisco, Texas," said Gearbox president Randy Pitchford.

"We now look ahead to another key and exciting step which is our commitment towards our all-new Gearbox Studio Quebec. Here, we will we strive to team up with some incredible talent in the world of video game development outside of Texas to help us build fun and exciting video games within our tent-pole brands.”

Pierre-Andre Dery has been pegged as both studio creative director and will co-head it with Sebastien Caisse, Ph.D.Dery was previously art director at Activision, where he worked on Skylanders and The Amazing Spider-Man.

His resume also includes over 30 console titles such as Far Cry, Deus Ex and World of Warcraft.

Gearbox Software has been headquartered in Texas for over 16 years, making Gearbox Quebec its first expansion outside that area.
