Killing Floor 2 gets Team Fortress 2-style marketplace with crates and keys

Killing Floor 2 is the latest game to get a marketplace in which keys can be bought for real-world money.

Killing Floor 2 is getting an item marketplace that's going to sell cosmetics for real money called The Trading Floor. The new scheme sees items dropping in-game for free, with supply crates needing a key to unlock.

Keys can be purchased using real-world money. Everything unlocks weapon skins, player outfits, and other cosmetics.

This works in the same way Team Fortress 2's system does. Players get loot at the end of the mission. This loot could either a skin, outfit etc. or a supply crate, which require keys. There are six tiers of rarity for the items you could find within.

USB sticks are also a type of crates that each contain a single rare weapon skin blueprint, which also require a key to unlock. These items can all be traded on Steam's marketplace, also similar to Team Fortress 2.

Developer Tripwire posted a new FAQ to answer a few questions and better explain the concept. In it, the developer answers the question of why they added this feature despite the game still being in Early Access, with notable features such as the Sharpshooter perk still missing.

"We view the Trading Floor as a feature that needs iteration just like the rest of the features in the game," the studio wrote. "Early Access is the perfect place to iterate on the Trading Floor feature with the community."
