Fallout 4 has shipped 12 million units

Fallout 4 sales have broken records at retail and digitally for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on day-one, Bethesda has announced.

The game shipped 12 million units worldwide "to meet day one demand," representing "sales in excess of $750 million". Since the wording is rather vague, for now, assume this means sell-in to retailers, not sell-through to customers.

Fallout 4 was also the most pre-ordered game this year according to various retail figures, and the Pip-Boy Edition was the fastest-selling collector’s edition "of any game in history" at leading retailers.

Launch day sales, according to retailers, were the largest of any game released this year.

Digital sales are also breaking records, according to the firm, and the Fallout Pip-Boy app became the number one game on the iTunes App Store.

It is also the most viewed game launch for 2015 according to Twitch.

To meet demand, Bethesda is now shipping more Fallout 4 units to retailers.

Fallout 4 released earlier this week.
