How to play Fallout 3 (and other backwards-compatible Xbox 360 games) on your Xbox One

You can now play more than 100 Xbox 360 games on your Xbox One. Here's how to do it.

Microsoft's new Xbox One UI brought with it the ability to play old Xbox 360 games on the console this week. The first 104 Xbox 360 titles compatible with Xbox One were announced on Monday.

But how to get them running? Like this.

Digital games: From the home screen on the new UI, press the right trigger. This will drop you to the bottom of the screen with the highlight on the app to take you to your games and installed applications. See the image below (sorry: my Xbox One's in French).

Press A and you should see a list of your Xbox One games. Move the cursor over to the right, and you should now see all the Xbox 360 games you owned digitally that now work on Xbox One. You can press A on any of these to install and play them.

The compatible digital Xbox 360 games aren't available to buy on the Xbox One store, but you can buy them on your 360 as usual and just download them to your Xbox One.

Games on disc: If you own any of the games on the list on disc, just put the disc into the Xbox One drive. You'll see a prompt saying you need to download the game. Do so. You will need to keep the disc in the drive while you play.

Here's the full list of Xbox 360 games currently backwards-compatible with Xbox One. All Xbox 360 titles in the Games With Gold promo will now run on Xbox One.
