A Reddit post has brought attention to a fascinating world of video game collectibles most of us will probably never get the chance to participate in: challenge coins.

According to various Redditors chiming in on the thread, publishers often supply a box of challenge coins to select military exchange outlets, to be distributed with purchases of new games. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, The Elder Scrolls Online, Titanfall, Destiny, Fable 3 and Batman: Arkham City were all name-dropped.

These coins are sometimes sold on eBay and other auction sites, apparently, so if you really fancy one you know where to look.
