SyFy will not develop a fourth series of TV show based on Trion’s MMO.
The transmedia hybrid Defiance just lost its most unique feature – the television series has been canned after three seasons.
SyFy will not produce a fourth season, according to Variety, but the game will continue according to developer and publisher Trion.
“Defiance is Trion’s IP and the game will continue exactly as before,” CEO of Trion Scott Hartsman told Polygon.
“The show has always been a fantastic and interesting partner, but the two were always meant to be able to stand on their own, which is why the show was primarily set in St. Louis and the game in the SF Bay Area.”
The TV Show and game launched as a cross-media project in 2013 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
