Deane Taylor, an award-winning animator, is seeking funding for a “mixed media fantasy adventure game for young adults”.
Taylor has started an Indiegogo campaign for Jinko.
“The game is pretty bizarre, but also very focused”, Taylor says in the pitch video.
“It’s a vast world with great opportunity to explore.”
According to the page, the game will feature seven acts, “each with its own genre of gameplay and unique design.”
As well as being the art director for The Nightmare Before Christmas, Taylor also worked on Cow and Chicken, Ren and Stimpy, and “over 400 hours” of other animation for television.
The project is asking for $54,000 to help build an animatic, which will be used to support a teaser. Honestly, where the money is actually going is a little unclear, but the ultimate idea seems to be to produce a game alongside a feature and a mini-series that further explore the world of Jinko.
Right now, all of the support tiers reward you with art, rather than promises of the final game.
If you’re a fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas, have a look – Taylor’s work is reminiscent of Tim Burton and even Ralph Steadman, but it’s still great in its own right.
