Deeply boring Wii U firmware 5.5.0 is out now, does very little

The most exciting thing this update does is remove a redundant icon. No, really.

Wii U firmware updates are important, but Nintendo's refusal to provide any but the most bare bones patch notes mean we rarely get anything juicy out of 'em.

System software 5.5.0 is now available for download, and according to Nintendo of America, it achieves the following:

  • Changes to the Wii U Menu and HOME Menu:
The Nintendo TVii icon has been removed from the Wii U Menu and HOME Menu. For more information regarding the end of this service, click here.
  • Improvements to system stability and usability:
Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

Fascinating stuff, don't you agree? Jokes aside, it's always good to see the old stability chestnut getting a polish, on any platform.

Thanks, GoNintendo.
