Uncharted movie, Resident Evil 6 dated for 2017 release

The Uncharted movie has a release date, which means it might actually happen. Huh.

Sony Pictures has dated a number of upcoming projects from August 2016 through March 2019, including a couple of its video game adaptations.

According to Variety, the latest Resident Evil movie is due on January 27 2017, while Uncharted hits cinemas on June 30 2017.

That Resident Evil 6 is getting along is no surprise - the Paul W. S. Anderson series is pretty much the most successful gaming film project ever, and both Anderson and star Milla Jovovich have been quite open about the latest entry over the past few years.

Uncharted is a bit more of a surprise, as almost every update we've ever had on it has been something like "Hollywood person makes baffling, awful decision", "Hollywood person leaves project", "Sony tries to get another Hollywood person". In fact, the last bit of news we had was that director Seth Gordon had bowed out of the Uncharted movie - and that was only at the end of June.

That Sony feels confident enough to put down a release window, with all the accompanying business of distribution and whatnot, suggests things have settled down somewhat - or that it's determined to see the project completed come hell or high water, I guess.
