Angry Birds 2 attracts 10M downloads, actor says movie is "smart", "beautiful"

The Angry Birds train cannot be stopped.

Angry Birds 2 launched on July 30 and generated 1 million downloads within the first 12 hours of launch.

Just a few days later it has already left that figure in the dust, totting up 10 million downloads.

This isn't at all surprising; the franchise managed an absolutely whopping 3 billion downloads before this latest entry released.

What is surprising is that the upcoming movie adaptation is apparently not the awful mess we usually expect of games-to-film conversions. This comes from actor Josh Gad, one of a number of names attached to the project, so naturally he's got a good reason to say it's pretty good, but even so his comments are interesting to say the least.

"When I was approached about it I actually said no," Gad told IGN.

"The producer was like ‘Just let me kind of pitch out this movie to you’ and did this reel for me of what he was thinking about, and it was this 30-minute visual pitch and it blew my socks off.

“It’s really irreverent, and like that LEGO Movie sensibility it’s subversive and funny and unexpectedly smart and really beautiful. Actually gorgeous. The little I’ve seen of it has really impressed me.”

Well, that's a thing, although I question the judgment of anybody involved in Pixels. Angry Birds: The Movie is expected in May 2016, and the cast also includes Peter Dinklage, Jason Sudeikis, Maya Rudolph, Danny McBride and Bill Hader.
