No Man’s Sky and virtual reality sound like the perfect fit. So why is Hello Games still tight-lipped?
In the latest issue of Edge Magazine, No Man’s Sky developer Sean Murray showed surprising restraint when asked about the possibility of the game coming to virtual reality headsets like Sony’s Morpheus and the Oculus Rift.
“I don’t know what I’m allowed to say,” he said when asked about the prospect. “It’s something we’re thinking about.
“Morpheus, Oculus… There’s nothing more cool and sci-fi than VR and a big procedural universe. I think that, for the people who want to just explore, and even for the space combat and things like that, it would be a good fit. Let’s put it that way.”
And he’s right, a space exploration game of that nature would be a golden opportunity for Sony to use as an early Morpheus killer app. Imagine if No Man’s Sky was bundled with the headset, for instance. Now that would be a sound strategy.
We are still waiting to hear a release date for No Man’s Sky. As for Project Morpheus and Oculus Rift, we’re expecting both in early 2016.
