Gearbox Software is still working on a new “authentic” Brothers in Arms title, according to company boss Randy Pitchford.
At Develop, Pitchford stated that extra help was being sought for the project, which is in the “incubation” stages. Gearbox is also looking for outside talent to work on its next Duke Nukem project.
“I think the next Brothers in Arms game has to be authentic and we have been working on that,” he said. “I feel we have unfinished business there with both the fiction and the history and I’d like to get into that.
“Sadly it takes a lot of resources, energy and money to do what must be done, so it’s not something I feel I could completely do alone. I need good partners for it, so we’ve been talking to great folks but it’s really putting all that together that’s the limiting factor.”
Pitchford said Gearbox would be able to talk about the next Brothers in Arms once all the development and publishing partners have been confirmed.
“I feel like I’m on the brink of it, but we’re not quite there yet,” he added. “But we’re in the incubation phase with the next one there, for sure.”
It appears Brothers in Arms: Furious 4, which was announced during E3 2011, has gone back to the drawing board now that the BiA brand has been removed from the title. Gearbox is reportedly working on an unannounced new franchise, but it appears Furious 4 isn’t said project as that game “is not a thing anymore,” according to Pitchford.
Matter of fact, Furious 4 character Montana is now in Gearbox’s upcoming game, Battleborn.
“Creative development is a trip,” he said. “The idea that something that started as a Brothers in Arms game through some absurd convolution ended up as Battleborn is evidence of what’s possible. Montana exists only in the Battleborn universe.
“He never existed in the Brothers in Arms universe, because that game never happened.”
Battleborn is an online team-based shooter with MOBA elements and will be published by 2K Games for PC, PS4 and Xbox One sometime this winter.
