Epic forums compromised by hackers

Unreal Tournament developer Epic Games has had to shutter its forums.

Epic Games has contacted forum members to let them know their personal details have been compromised.

"We are sorry to report that the incident may have resulted in unauthorized access to your username, email address, password, and the date of birth you provided at registration," the developer said.

The good news is the Unreal Engine 4, Fortnite and the new Unreal Tournament forums were not affected. Unfortunately the UDK forum was, along with the less active Infinity Blade, Gears of War, Bulletstorm and past Unreal Tournament games forums.

The forums have been taken offline and mandatory password resets will be issued when they come back up, but in the meantime members should move to protect themselves by changing any duplicate passwords.

Epic said it's working with a security firm to investigate the hack, and will update users with more information. It also warned against phishing attempts that may result from compromised data.

You can see the full advisory email on Kotaku. It's good to see a company being so communicative and responsive in the wake of a perhaps inevitable security breach.
