Capcom has outlined a PS4 beta program for Street Fighter 5 starting July 2015.

It has also revealed that Cammie and Birdie are the two latest fighters to join the beat-em-up.

Fan favourite Special Ops whirlwind Cammy and British gas bag Birdie are back by popular demand, or at least this is how Capcom tells it. Still no sign of original characters for the next generation of World Warriors, but we guess there’s time before 2016 when the game is aimed for launch.

Cammy, who debuted in Super Street Fighter II (1993), has received the V-System overhaul outlined in our SFV hands on report from last week. Her Axel Spin Knuckle, originally a motion command, has become a V-Skill counter attack, activated by pressing MP+MK simultaneously.

Birdie, first playable in Street Fighter Alpha (1995) has likewise gained a series of modifications that may seem to some like simplification: his 360 motion command for Murder Chain is gone together with the complicated to-and-fro charge command for The Birdie.

Birdie is especially charismatic, with taunt moves that cause chip damage while unbalancing his opponent. His V-Skill breaks down as a selection of three food-juggling options called Break Time, rolling cans of beer or gulping down a hot pepper for a strength boost. His Critical Art, Skip to My Chain, is very humiliating with hapless foes turned into a jump rope. Cammy is more straightforward, in the vein of Ryu, boasting a variation of the Gyro Drive Smasher now dubbed Cross Stinger Assault.

Meanwhile, something you can act upon straight away is registering for Phase 1 of the Street Fighter V public Beta that begins July 23. This is reserved for PlayStation 4 players only, and you can sign up at streetfighter.com starting this week. Phases 2 and 3 are TBC regarding PC players and future dates, but since the Beta is being used to gather feedback for the battle system and online features, it’s very likely that PC and cross-play testing will factor somewhere down the line.
