Duke Nukem 3D artist passes away aged 41

3D Realms has published a heartfelt tribute to a former colleague who has passed away.

James Storey, 41, passed away on May 30.

The artist spent four years working with 3D Realms, then known as Apogee, and contributed to Duke Nukem 3D, Rise of the Triad, Terminal Velocity and Stargunner.

According to a tribute published on the 3D Realms website, Storey was responsible for Duke Nukem 3D's famous exploding barrels.

3D Realms staffers expressed their shock at Storey's loss; he's the second of their team to pass away at such a young age.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to Storey's friends and family.
