Destiny: say goodbye to Ether Chest farming

Destiny’s latest patch ruins the Ether Chest farming trick. You knew it was too good to last.

Destiny patch 1.2.0.2 dropped this morning, and made some interesting refnements to the post-House of Wolves economy.

The key (heh heh) changes relate to Ether Chests, and perhaps the most important one is “Ether Chests may only be looted once per spawn”.

Up until now, Guardians have been taking advantage of a little trick to farm Ether Chests – looting, then zooming into a neighbouring zone and back again, allowing them to loot Ether Chests a second time. Sometimes you’d be able to grab a pile of goodies three or even four times.

That’s all over now, but on the bright side, you’re guaranteed to receive a Treasure Key for your first Fallen Bounty each week, and the general drop rate of Treasure Keys has been significantly increased.

Ether Chests in general will be more worth your time, too – you’ll earn Queen’s Wrath reputation, and perhaps harvest Tokens of Flight, Identity and Judgment. What you won’t get is ammo consumables (bor-ing).

So there are still very good reasons to be out in the world taking down the Wolves. Hopefully Patrol zones will remain populated with happy treasure hunters.
