Five Nights at Freddy has garnered the attention of Hollywood.

A Five Nights at Freddy’s movie is in the planning stages at Warner Bros., which is looking for writers to tackle the script.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Roy Lee (Run All Night, Poltergeist) as well as Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg (Beetlejuice sequel) will produce the project.

“We’re looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie,” Grahame-Smith said.

“The story really lends itself to being a movie and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to,” Five Nights at Freddy’s creator Scott Cawthon added.

That’s putting it mildly; Five Nights at Freddy’s is set in a Chuck E Cheese-like restaurant chain, and has a security guard attempting to survive the night by using doors to control the movements of creepy animatronics. Given how well Annabelle did for Warner Bros., this one’s kind of a no brainer.

There are three Five Nights at Freddy’s games, available on Steam for PC. Cawthon produced them alone, at a rapid pace. Hopefully he got a nice pay off for the film rights; “indie dev makes good” is such a satisfying story.

The three producers named above are also working on the new It movie.
