Claptrap is one of Borderlands' most popular characters

Borderlands fans have voted Claptrap as one of the best characters the franchise has produced - a result which will surprise the robot's many detractors.

Borderlands has a colourful cast to say the least, and Claptrap is one of the few characters with a major presence in every game. He's a divisive character; players either seem to love him or find him intensely annoying.

Despite this controversy, in a survey reported by the Borderlands Twitter account Claptrap was voted one of the top three characters of the franchise, along with Tiny Tina and Krieg.

You might have expected the most popular playable characters to make the list, but with the exception of The Pre-Sequel the Borderlands games haven't really dived much into the personalities and backstories of its playable characters.

Meanwhile, Claptrap is playable in the Pre-Sequel, but also plays major roles in both of the other core releases, so players are quite familiar with him. Tiny Tina is an important NPC in Borderlands 2, guiding players through some of the very best mission content, so again players get to know her pretty well.

Krieg is much less chatty than either of these two, but playing as a Psycho is fantastic, and the wonderful introductory cinematic presenting his painful inner world won a lot of hearts. Let's watch it again:
