The Last Guardian progressing under "new conditions"

If The Last Guardian isn't a PS4 game at this stage, we'll be astonished.

The Last Guardian has been in the works so long that its position as "Team ICO's first PS3 game" looks kind of laughable.

Since Sony has continuously said it's not giving up on the project, we've been eagerly anticipating an announce of its migration to PS4. Now creator Fumito Ueda has made some comments which are pretty suggestive of us (and everyone else) being right.

"Talks with Sony Computer Entertainment on The Last Guardian have been ironed out, and we’re making progress under completely new conditions," Ueda told Dengeki in an interview translated by Kotaku.

New conditions, huh? Like a platform change, maybe? SCE Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida has already hinted at it.

Ueda had been asked what was, for him, the most memorable thing about the PlayStation brand, on the occasion of its 20th anniversary.

“The Last Guardian," he replied, "By which I mean all the hardships and the unforeseen amount of time required than what was originally thought."

The Last Guardian was announced in 2009. Since then, Ueda has left Sony, although he remains on board the project as a contractor.

There's a lot of anticipation for The Last Guardian because Team ICO's two PS2 releases, ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, were terrific. Sony has promised to let us know if it is ever shelved, mostly chooses not to talk about it until it has something more interesting to say than "yep, still happening, no ETA". Ueda, on those rare occasions press pin him down, is sometimes more forthcoming.

As for why it's taken so long, Sony has said it announced the project too early, and has had to re-do much of development.
