Etrian Odyssey 5 announced with first trailer

Etrian Odyssey developer Atlus has revealed an upcoming fifth core entry in the popular portable RPG franchise.

Etrian Odyssey 5 was announced during a livestream today, with a trailer shown to Japanese Atlus fans.

The trailer is in Japanese, but Gematsu harvested a few details of staff on the project: director Shigeo Komori, character designer Yuji Himukai and composer Yuzo Koshiro, with monster design by Shin Nagasawa. I love how JRPG fans know such a variety of developers by name and follow their work.

No release window or platform was announced, but we expect 2015 and 3DS, unless Atlus surprises us.

The most recent Etrian Odyssey games are Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl, a remake and re-imagining of the very first Etrian Odyssey game, and Etrian Odyssey 4: Legends of the Titan. Both are now available in Europe and North America, but suffered various delays getting out of Japan and into our hands.
