All DLC maps for Evolve will be available to players free regardless of whether they have purchased any add-on packs.
Speaking with IGN, Turtle Rock Studios’ creative director Phil Robb said the studio didn’t want to split the community up between the haves and the have nots.
“We can’t break the community up, so all of our maps will be free,” said Robb. “We never want anyone to get booted off of a server because they haven’t bought something.
“We’ll have [DLC] characters and monsters, and even if you don’t buy them, if your buddy wants to buy the DLC, that’s cool, and your game will be enhanced through his purchase.
“You won’t be able to play as those characters, but you will certainly be able to play with those characters.”
That’s great news for those who aren’t too keen on DLC packs, and it’s always nice when a developer thinks of the community first.
Evolve will be released on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in February and everyone who pre-orders the game will receive the first monster DLC pack for free.
