Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare sales are tracking faster than last year's entry in the UK.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare debuted at the top of the UK charts in its launch week, attracting the highest week one sales of any new shooter this year.

So far, so Call of Duty, right? Activision's juggernaut does that every year. What it doesn't always do is outsell the Call of Duty game of the year before, though, and Advanced Warfare has definitely done that, Activision told MCV.

“We are very happy with how much fans have embraced Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare as evidenced by an increase in combined retail and digital sales year-over-year in the UK,” the publisher said in a statement.

“While it’s still early, we think we have a great game that’s fun, engaging and will keep people playing for some time to come. Welcome to a new era of Call of Duty.”

Advanced Warfare still may not go on to outsell Ghosts long-term, as the Call of Duty series has a notoriously long tail, but it certainly looks possible.

Analysts had said that they expected Advanced Warfare to sell less than Ghosts. Perhaps they believed the 2013 Infinity Ward shooter's performance dip was the beignning of the end ofr Call of Duty, as opposed to an aberration; we'll find out which it really was in a few months, I guess.

Unless Activision issues a press release, we won't hear about US sales until the NPD Group releases its November report next month.
