15 minute documentary outlines the making of Elite: Dangerous

Would you like to watch a 15 minute behind-the-scenes Elite: Dangerous? What a happy coincidence.

Elite: Dangerous is quite a special beast, despite the sudden plethora of in-development space sandbox games. It comes from David Braben, one of the pioneers of the franchise. It's the latest in a series that began in 1984 with Elite, and progressed through 1995's Frontier: Elite 2 and Frontier First Encounters.

A fourth Elite game was in the works, but couldn't raise publisher funding as the industry narrowed its focus to smaller numbers of bigger triple-A games. After the Kickstarter revolution, Braben turned to crowdfunding, reacquiring the rights and eventually raising over £1.7 million.

Get caught up on the state of the space sim with this making of video. Elite: Dangerous is expected on PC later this year - maybe.
