DirectX 12 will ship with Windows 10

Microsoft has confirmed that DirectX 12 will be shipping with Windows 10.

directx 12

DirectX 12 will ship with the recently announced Windows 10, sometime in 2015, the firm confirmed. In fact, the current technical build of Windows 10 already has an early version DirectX 12, intended for developers.

"The final version of Windows 10 will ship with DirectX 12," the DirectX team wrote. "And we think it's going to be awesome."

At present, only the recent version of Unreal Engine 4 supports the API, and the team said they have "great working relationships with all graphics vendors," when asked about other engines.

There is currently no information of whether or not DirectX 12 will be coming to older versions of Windows.
