Destiny's 1.0.2 patch is going live next week, here's what to expect

Destiny is in the news once more with the announcement that the 1.0.2 patch will be going live next week, with copious change to both the Cryptarch and Engram experience, meant to ensure that Engrams will always decode into items at or above their original quality.

This change will only affect Engrams dropped after the patch is applied.

There are some massive changes in store for the Cryptarch, with Legendary Engrams being altered to always produce Legendary or better quality items, including Materials or Exotics. In addition, Rare Engrams will alwyas produce Rare or better items, and said Rare Engrams will come with the increased chance to produce Legendary items.

Additional changes Bungie has announced include item and activity changes. Ascendant materials will be promoted to Legendary in order to associate them with the gear they're used to upgrade, while Legendary Engram items you already have will be demoted to Rare quality. Bungie cautions players to decode them while they can, but "let's be honest -- even if you don't, we all know they were blues already." Thanks, guys.

As far as activities go, Daily and Weekly Heroics and Vanguard: Tiger Playlist tasks will include Rare and Legendary Engrams as well as what they're already offering.
