Destiny guide: Moon Gold Chest locations
Track down Destiny’s elusive Gold Chests with ease thanks to our detailed locations guide.
Destiny includes a second set of collectibles in addition to the Dead Ghosts, and the Gold Chests offer more than story and bragging rights, because they’re filled with sweet loot.
Opening a single Gold Chest will grant you a better-than-average reward, and occasionally a specific item, but collect the whole set in a location and you’ll receive something extra special.
If you follow our Destiny walkthrough you’ll find four of the five Moon chests as you explore; the numbering we’ve used here matches the walkthrough.
Here’s how to find all five chests:
Moon Gold Chest #1
Take the path from Archer’s Line through the broken dome and down into the Hive lair. When you reach the narrow rocky corridor at the bottom, stop and turn around to face back the way you came. See the pool of water you just splashed through? Walk back, turn left, and follow the water to the very end, past the overhang that creates the illusion of a wall. The chest is right at the end.
Moon Gold Chest #2
Explore The World’s Grave until you reach the room in which you face the final battle of the eponymous mission. The chest is most easily found by entering the room, walking directly forward until you drop down into a pool of water, then turning left and hugging the wall to its very end. The chest is hidden by a large lamp.
Moon Gold Chest #3
This chest is found on the path between Archer’s Line and the Hellmouth. From Archer’s Line, look for a place wher ethr road suddenly opens into a wide clearing before narrowing into a rocky pass, on the other side of which is the Hellmouth itself. This area is home to a collapsed bridge – or perhaps a pair of ramps? – over a glowing crevasse; two buggies crashed into the wall; and a third buggy crashed into a rocky clump, accompanied by two corpses. Search this rocky clump for the chest.
Moon Gold Chest #4
From the ground floor of the Temple of Crota, look for a path leading further down. Follow it through to a room with some sort of ship or structure hanging in the middle. There are quite a few enemies here, including a Wizard, so clear them out before going treasure hunting. Once safe, go to the short ramp leading down from the central structure to the rocky surrounding floor. Facing up the ramp to the structure, look down and to the left into the pit to see the chest on a small platform. Jumping down is easy, but getting out is harder; jump from platform to platform in an anti-clockwise direction to escape.
Moon Gold Chest #5
This chest is only available during the Moon’s Strike mission, The Summoning Pit. It’s between two staircases on the low platform at the far end of the arena where you for the final boss.
