Is The Sims 4 “pixel bug” an anti-piracy measure?

Players of The Sims 4 are reporting a bug that turns the entire screen into a mosaic blur.

It looks like the effect that usually covers a Sim’s nuts and bolts, but instead of just hovering around the crotch, it’s expanding across the whole screen.

Players are reporting the problem as a bug, reports Player Attack, but some are suggesting it’s an anti-piracy measure and only appears in cracked copies of the game.

EA has so far stayed silent on the matter, which is only adding to the confusion. It’s probably a piracy thing – and fair play, it’s fun – but it might help if the publisher came out and said so instead of risking goodwill with the vibrant Sims community.
