Minecraft PS4 and Xbox One coming soon, Vita version not so much

Minecraft’s long-awaited console ports still don’t have a release date, but we’ve had updates on all three new versions.

Minecraft console developer 4J Studios has been busy on Twitter over the last week, commenting on the missing ports.

First up, the Vita version, which was tentatively expected in September but has never been formally dated:

So: no ETA on that one. Still with Sony, the PS4 version of Minecraft failed certification, but is now back for another round of testing.

As for the Xbox One version, it’s also now in final certification – this it its first go round, but don’t let that worry you. It’s an expensive process, so developers and publishers try not to do it more than once.

We had expected both the PS4 and Xbox One versions before the end of August, but 4J Studios is quite a small team, and Minecraft is a much more complicated beast than its simple looks suggest. Still, it looks like there’s not long to wait now. The Mac, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are a pretty good fallback.
