Mario on iPhone? Not until Iwata leaves Nintendo

A new report is claiming that management at Nintendo is trying to force president Satoru Iwata out.

Critics of the company are looking at its latest performance and suggesting that Iwata's obsession with making home consoles is to blame for sluggish sales of the Wii U and poor financial results.

According to the Business Journal, Nintendo management are calling for popular franchises such as Mario to make an appearance on smartphones, but Iwata is refusing to bend, insisting on sticking to releasing its own games on Nintendo hardware.

The call for Nintendo to release its much-loved games on other formats is not a new one.

But just as the repeated calls to step down surface every three months, so does Iwata's assertion that he will remain with the company and there will be no Super Mario Bros on smartphones.
