The Metal Gear Solid movie is finally going somewhere

It looks like the Metal Gear Solid movie may be gaining momentum, with a director finally on the cards after over a year of total silence.

According to a Deadline report, Sony Pictures is in talks with The Kings of Summer director Jordan Vogt-Roberts to come on board.

The site’s sources said the project has taken a while to get off the ground because “it just took so long for the game creators and the studio to find themselves on the same page in how to tell the story of protagonist”.

Apparently the Shadow Moses Incident will be the focus of the film – that’s the first Metal Gear Solid on PSOne, if you’re unfamiliar with the term.

The Metal Gear Solid movie was announced at a celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary in August 2012, with Columbia Pictures and producer Avi Arad announcing their involvement with the project. One month later, Kojima confirmed the movie will star Solid Snake, that he will be involved and that an unknown actor will play the lead role.

At the time, Arad said the Metal Gear Solid movie was just three years away – lining it up for a late 2015 release, but the project then went totally silent. Honestly, despite the weight of the property, we’d kind of marked this one down as another victim of the gaming cinema curse.
