New Gears of War will kill canon if it gets in the way of fun

Don't expect to play a new Gears of War for a long time. Black Tusk Studios' manager Rod Fergusson has told fans that the new game is still very much in the prototype stage, with only 100 days under its belt. Further, he made some interesting comments about the studio's approach to canon, as well as sort of showing off some new concept art.

There's your new concept art. Grey-ish blobs confirmed.

All of this sort-of news comes from the latest Black Tusk Rodcast. The most interesting comments came when Fergusson was asked if the new game would honour the canon established by other Gears media like books and comics. "Yes, as best we can," replied Fergusson. "I believe fun is greater than canon. That's not to say I'm going out of my way to destroy canon, but if I get to a situation that may invalidate a comic book or a book, I'm going to make that fun decision."

This is the first time that Vancouver-based studio Black Tusk has worked on the franchise, after Microsoft acquired the Gears of War rights from Epic Games earlier this year.
