Nintendo’s free Pokemon game looks a bit like Paper Mario in this trailer

The Band of Thieves & 1000 Pokémon is a new, free game heading to 3DS handhelds in Japan to tie in with the launch of new Pokemon film Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction. Nintendo has just published the game’s first trailer, and it’s looking a bit like Paper Mario.

That’s no bad thing of course, and as you can see, the game sees players amassing an army of flat, paper Pokemon using StreetPass before unleashing it at enemies. We first covered the game after this CoroCoro scan appeared online. Check it out for more art and screens.

Apparently, if you take your 3DS to the cinema to see the new Pokemon film with StreetPass enabled, Nintendo will give viewers a special gift. We’ll have more on what that is later.

The Band of Thieves & 1000 Pokémon is out in July, and there’s no word on a European release date yet.
