According to a new report, via GameInformer, the NPD estimates there are 34 million gamers who average 22 hours per week - in the US alone.

This number doesn't include people only playing on their phones and whatnot; it derives from the NPD's core gamer survey. This means they only spoke to people above the age of nine who play at least five hours per week on a PC or console in their homes, and played at least one traditional game - action, adventure, fighting, flight, MMOs, racing, RTS, RPG, shooter, or sports. That said, of the group surveyed, two-thirds also play on mobile devices.

Other interesting snippets from the report include word that 74% of core gamers perfer physical media over digital, although that figure is changing, down 5% from last year. Almost 70% play multiplayer games regularly or occasionally.

The report was drawn from a survey of 7,927 respondents.
