Firefly Online is still on course, both developer and publisher have assured VG247, with more information expected over the coming months.

Last time we got an update on the project, Firefly Online was scheduled to release on Mac and PC in northern summer this year.

Publisher Quantum Mechanix Interactive (QMXi) didn't guive us a release date update, but provided the MMO's first screenshot and said a gameplay trailer "should be ready fairly soon".

Developer Spark Plug Games said it expects to make announcements leading up to GDC next week, and that the best place to keep track of the game is via website Keep Flying or its Facebook page.

Firefly Online will have players captaining customisable ships, recruiting a crew, taking contracts, trading and exploring the universe. Described as a "strategic online role playing game", its core gameplay loop is described as "find a crew, find a job, keep flying".

An officially licensed product, it will continue the story of Joss Wedon's frontier sci-fi series, and will also be available in mobile form with cross-save and cross-play.
