Rust passes 1 million sales milestone while still in Early Access alpha

Rust has recruited 1 million eager survivalists since the sandbox launched on Steam Early Access in December last year.

Facepunch Studios founder Garry Newman revealed the milestone in a tweet, with a screngrab of lifetime sales units. It makes us feel a bit strange about celebrating 150,000 sales not that long ago.

It's a major turn of affairs by any standards, but is especially exciting for Newman given how strongly Rust is outpacing Garry's Mod, the product he is best known for.

Currently in alpha, Rust is still taking form; Facepunch only just took out zombies, which has disappointed those hoping for another DayZ clone.

Even in its early state it's pretty interesting, and Dave's newb diaries are pretty amusing.

You can buy into Rust for $20 via Steam.
