Kinect-based surveillance system monitoring Korean border
The demilitarized zone that lies between the North and South Korean border is being monitored by a Kinect-based surveillance system, the tech's programmer has revealed.
Hankooki reports that the Kinect network was put together by self-taught coder Jae Kwan Ko and put into action back in August. It has only just been revealed to the public, and is said to have the capacity to distinguish between humans and animals passing through the DMZ. If humans are spotted, it sends out an alert to authorities.
Ko said of the system, "I've never even thought of a game system performing national defense tasks," before adding that a future iteration of the framework will be able to detect heart rates and heat signatures; suggesting that it's being upgraded to Xbox One Kinect sensors.
It's likely, seeing as Xbox One is set to launch in South Korea from later this year.
