Valve releases SteamVR beta for Oculus Rift

As Valve prepares to show its virtual reality SDK to developers, the company has released a VR beta for the Oculus headset.

Announced by programmer Joe Ludwig, Steam VR is an experimental mode to interact with Steam using the Oculus Rift headset.

"As of the most recent Steam Client Beta steam now supports an experimental VR mode," he said. "If you own an Oculus Rift dev kit you can try it out by starting Steam with "-vr" on the command line. Then press the Big Picture button to enter Big Picture + VR mode."

Valve is preparing to show off its virtual reality software development kit to attendees of the Steam Dev Days tomorrow and Thursday, a solution it hopes will help standardise interfaces for virtual reality.

Thanks, Road To VR.
