Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn free-to-play for veterans this weekend

Lapsed players can check out the latest updates to Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn during a free event this weekend.

Unfortunately, the trial' isn't open to brand new players; only those who have bought the base game, registered it, and let their accounts go inactive are eligible.

According to a Loadstone post, the trial is designed to give players a chance to check out the new content delivered by patch 2.1, which includes a 24-man raid, extra PvP content, extreme encounters with primals, and more content in the main scenario.

The free weekend runs from midnight PST January 11 to the same time January 13.

If you'd like to get the client download out of the way ahead of time, you can grab it direct from Square Enix.

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn is an entirely rebuilt version of the poorly-received original MMORPG, available on PC and PlayStation 3. A PS4 version is coming in April.
