PlayStation app on new Xperia phone for easy PS4 second-screen use - CES 2014

Sony is offering a $100 voucher when gamers pick up a PlayStation 4 along with its latest smartphone, the Xperia Z1S.

The promotion is part of Sony's efforts to promote the new smartphone as a second-screen device for the PS4. The phone comes with the PlayStation app pre-installed, and is the first Sony smartphone to do so.

The Android-based device offers 32 GB of memory and a new kind of camera technology. Xperia Z1S will be pre sold starting today, with online sales kicking off next Monday and in-store availability from January 22. It comes with a collection of free PlayStation Mobile games.

We didn't hear anything about the rumoured VR headset, or accessories for the PlayStation 4, unfortunately, but Sony did reveal the HMZ-T3W, a new personal head-mounted display with a virtual 750" screen that sense head movement.

Apart from this news, there wasn't much for gamers at Sony's CES 2014 livestream. It had plenty to say about new music players, cameras and a fitness band, but the main non-gaming news likely to be of interest was updates to its 4K line, including a model that will be available in the US for under $2,000.
