Sydney: PS4 launch event offers non pre-order stock, chance at E3 2014 trip

Dick Smith Australia is offering gamers the chance to pick up a PlayStation 4 at midnight launch without a preorder, as well as giving one lucky gamer a trip to E3 2014.

Dick Smith has 300 PS4 consoles in reserve for its midnight launch event in Sydney, but won't be handing them out on a first-come, first-served basis. Instead, it's asking hopefuls to enter a competition on Facebook by stating which PS4 game they're most looking forward to and why.

Several PS4 consoles will be given away as part of the promotion, while the most creative entry will also score a trip to E3 2014 in Los Angeles in June, courtesy of SCE Australia.

Sony said the event represents "one of the only chances Australians have to purchase a PS4 on the day of launch if they haven’t pre-ordered one", as stock is low throughout the nation.

"The anticipation is really building for this Friday’s launch of PS4 in Australia. I have lost count of how many times I have been asked by someone where they will be able to get their hands on one for launch day," SCE Australia managing director Michael Ephraim said.

The PS4 launches on November 29 in Europe and selected other territories, having arrived in North America on November 15.
