Dark Souls 2 beta invites rolling out on PS3 this week, test begins October 12

Dark Souls 2 beta invites will roll out across North and South America, Europe and the UK this week on PS3. Some initial testing details have been revealed on the game's site.

An update on the Dark Souls 2 site explains that the beta phase will help From Software analyse server load, game balancing, multiplayer tests and bug fixes.

The site adds that the test will commence on October 12 and will accommodate 5000 players. More players will be added to the pool on October 26. Successful entrants will be notified of their access to the beta on October 8, and all players will be issued the same code. It will also be posted on the game's Facebook hub.

Progress from the beta will not be transferable to the final retail edition of Dark Souls 2.

We'll have more on the beta phase as it happens.
