Gree announces 200 lay-offs as Osaka office closes

Japanese social gaming giant Gree has shuttered its Osaka office, resulting in the loss of 200 jobs.

The closure was announced in a press release, as translated by market analyst Dr. Serkan Toto, and spotted by GI.biz.

It has offered the affected employees voluntary redundancy in a bid to reduce operating costs and to trim its 1,762-strong workforce by 11%. Applications for said redundancy will take place between October 9-28.

GI.biz adds that while Gree remains in profit, its yearly financial reports suggest a steady decline in revenue. The Osaka closure follows the shuttering of sites in Beijing and London, as well as lay-offs at its San Francisco office.

We'll have more on this as it transpires.
