Sony trademarks "Psygnosis", see the filing here

Sony has trademarked "Psygnosis", as in the former Liverpool-based studio that created the WipEout series. We've no idea what it means, but you can check out the filing here.

As you can see, the filing was made by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe in London on September 25. Seeing as Psygnosis is a studio name - rather than a game - this could be some sort of formality that allows the publisher to keep hold of its old games, like WipEout.

Or in a wilder theory, are we on the cusp of seeing the studio reborn? Rebranded Sony Studio Liverpool, the outfit was shuttered last year, along with the cancellation a rumoured WipEout PS4 project and other games.

What do you think? Is it about to make a come-back?
