Xbox One was almost called Xbox Infinity, Penello confirms

Xbox One was almost called Xbox Infinity, Microsoft's Albert Penello has revealed, which confirms pre-reveal leaks as accurate.

Speaking with Forbes, Penello said that the decision to call the console 'Xbox One' came from Microsoft's marketing team, and added, "That’s actually from the brand guys. The name is all them. We just wanted to make sure the hardware was solid. What it was called was top secret, even for many people on the team."

But now that the name is out there, Penello was able to comment on Xbox Infinity rumours that surfaced before the console's reveal in May. He explained, "The name Xbox Infinity was in the running, I can say that. [The marketing team is] crafty. Who’s to say that they didn’t leak that name out in the weeks ahead of the launch? They are very crafty."

Did they leak the Infinity name to gauge a reaction? Would you have preferred Xbox Infinity over Xbox One? Let us know below.
