Snow: CryEngine 3 open-world sports game due this year

Tiny indie Poppermost Productions will bring its ambitious open-world winter sports game Snow to gamescom this year.

The PC exclusive is expected some time this year, and was built by a team of three on CryEngine 3.

A free-to-play affair, Snow give players a set of skis or a snowboard and sets them loose on a massive mountain to do as they wish.

Solo and multiplayer competitive events and challenges dot the slopes, and will contribute to leaderboard standings as well as unlock special items.

Characters are customisable through an in-game store, with real-world brands on offer - a major coup for such a small developer.

The game is in alpha and will only be shown to press and trade behind closed doors at gamescom, but you can check out a few screens below.
