App maker Dekko has created an app called DekkoScan which allows you to scan real-world objects and convert them into blocks and import them into your Minecraft world.
Currently, DekkoScan is awaiting approval from Apple in order to land on the App Store, and while it has size limitations on what can be scanned it’s still sounds rather nifty.
As PCgamesN points out, the size limitation is due to the low memory capabilities of iOS, as the app scans in 128×128 resolution on iPad 2, iPad Mini, iPhone 4S and upwards with a A5 chip.
If you want to scan larger objects, like your barn or crop duster, you will need to stand far away so the objects are smaller.
“So it’s possible to scan a house in low resolution if you start from afar, but it doesn’t work as well because the tech is pretty experimental and right now geared towards close-range scanning,” said the app’s creator on the Minecraft sub Reddit.
Objects will be recreated using the 16 available shades but there are plans to expand to the whole set” of block types.
