Minecraft developer Majong has released a new launcher for the game. It’s free, isn’t as drab-looking as the original, and is necessary to play Minecraft 1.6 and later.

The new launcher is said to boast better performance and stability, along with a new set of features. There’s also more password security options, the possibility of API plug-ins down the line and much more. I’m not au fait with Minecraft so I won’t insult your intelligence readers, just know what it’s better than what went before.

However, you’ll need to grab it if you want to play anything above Minecraft 1.6 as the current launcher will stop updating at Minecraft 1.5.2.

You can download the new Minecraft launcher here.
