Thief dev diary discusses narrative, Garrett's backstory

Thief developer Eidos Montreal has released a new dev diary video, which digs deep into the reboot's narrative, and explains Garrett's motivation for being a scurvy stealer of shiny things.

In the clip narrative director Steven Gallagher explains that Garrett grew up in an orphanage, doesn't know where he came from and steals as a way of exerting freedom away from his past.

He added that the game's city is depressing, and that the Baron and his Watch guard are oppressing the people, while disease and a city-wide food shortage ruins lives. The game is set at a time where industry is taking over the city's old way of life and threatens the well-being of its residents.
