Titanfall offers a "new skill to master"

Respawn Entertainment's new game is, of course, a shooter - but a shooter with a twist, and on the TItanfall team hopes will challenge even expert players.

Speaking to Joystiq, lead designer Fairfax "Mackey" McCandlish said when Respawn first formed -before it even had computers - the team sat around with a white board and brainstormed the kind of game it would like to make.

It was a shooter, of course, but a shooter with some new abilities, specifically wall-running and double-jumps.

"We started to imagine what it would be like to play an existing map if you had these crazy capabilities," he said.

"It's all about finding something new and interesting, like a new skill to master. We're all really good at aiming and shooting now; it's nice to get a reward for manoeuvrability and outthinking the opponent, thinking one step ahead.

"It's really bringing a lot of that shooter experience and inventiveness and taking every game we've ever loved and making it into one."

Titanfall is coming to PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One in early 2014.
