Microsoft to sell its first-party Xbox One games at current $59.99 price point

Microsoft has confirmed to two different outlets that it will be selling its Xbox One games at current prices.

A company spokesperson told both
Polygon and
Kotaku that its first-party games will still run you the standard $59.99 or whatever your usual regional equivalent happens to be.

While Sony hasn't exactly committed to the current price point for its own first-party titles, but back in February after the PS4 reveal, SCEA boss Jack Tretton said games priced on the system would run anywhere from 99¢ to $60. This implies that there won't be a change in the current games price structure for the new system, at least on Sony's end.

That's not to say that EA, Ubisoft, Take-Two or any other third-party publisher won't up the price.

Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said during the firm's last financial call to investors that he expects development costs for next-gen to increase, as new tech always causes an increase in costs, and this “transition will not be an exception.” However, he didn't say whether the games would cost more as a result.

We'll all just have to wait and see what the sticker prices state when the game hit shelves.
